Crystal Pepsi was a Pepsi variation that was well known for being clear in color.
History[]
Crystal Pepsi was first released in 1992 alongside a diet version. The drink was very popular and gained approximately 474 million in the first year of release.
In December 1992, Coca-Cola released a similar drink called Tab Clear to compete with it. Unfortunately, both drinks were very similar and caused both of them to be discontinued in 1994 due to sales problems.
Sometime in 1994, Crystal Pepsi was rebranded as Crystal Citrus Taste, which was pretty much the same as Crystal Pepsi but with citrus flavor. It was discontinued in the same year due to low sales.
Possibly also in 1994, Crystal Pepsi was released in The Netherlands but as 7up Ice Cola. It was discontinued due to low sales and because it did not fit with the 7up brand, which is known to make lemon-lime sodas.
In 2005, Crystal Pepsi was released in Mexico and was known as Pepsi Clear, but was later discontinued for an unknown reason.
In 2015, because of many campaigns to bring the drink back, Crystal Pepsi could have been winnable by going to an app or on the website called Pepsipass.com.
In 2016, Crystal Pepsi was finally released again in stores in the United States and Canada as a limited edition.
In 2018, it was released again for a limited time and was said to be the last chance to chance to purchase Crystal Pepsi.
In 2020 and 2022, it was available through giveaways on Twitter.
There was a planned re-release of Crystal Pepsi in mid-2022 that would have would've introduced a zero sugar variant but it was cancelled.
Description[]
The first version was caffeine free and was available alongside a diet version. The version of 2015 and over is the same but contains caffeine which some people found the taste different from the 1992 version. There is also no diet or zero sugar variation for now.
The drink is often described as Pepsi but less sweet due to the lack of caramel color (E150d)
